LEXINGTON, Va. – Despite playing with four competitors, 13th-ranked Washington and Lee University claimed a 6-3 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) women's tennis win over visiting Guilford College Sunday.
The Generals, ranked 13th in the current Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association NCAA Division III Rankings, improved to 9-4 overall and 4-0 in the ODAC. Guilford dropped to 4-6 (3-5 ODAC).
Regionally ranked Tessa Hill played in the first-singles slot and teamed with Rachel Hicks at first doubles. After she and Hicks stopped Guilford's Katie Claggett and Riley Caruana at first doubles, Hill downed Claggett at first singles, 6-0, 6-1.
Melinda Kauffman and DeeDee Aeschliman took an 8-1 decision from Guilford's Nora Prokosch and Leigh Fishman. Kauffman defeated Prokosch in the day's closest singles match, 6-1, 6-2, at the number-two flight.
Hicks defeated Caruana, 6-0, 6-1, at third singles. Aeschliman won the fourth-singles bout with Fishman, 6-0, 6-0.
Coach Dave McCain's Quakers look to end a four-game losing streak Saturday (4/9) when they host league foe Randolph College at 1:00 p.m.
