GREENSBORO, N.C. – Nora Prokosch pulled out a 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 win at second singles to clinch Guilford College's 5-4 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) tennis win over Hollins University Friday.
The Quakers (1-1, 1-0 ODAC) had a 2-1 lead after doubles play. Katie Claggett and Riley Caruana scored a hard-fought 8-5 win at first doubles. Prokosch teamed with Luci Gordon for an 8-3 third-doubles victory over Hollins' Neha Batool and Wibecka Oliver.
The visitors rallied with narrow wins at third and fourth singles decided by pro-set tiebreakers. Htet Myat San took a straight-set win over Gordon at fifth singles, which gave Hollins (0-2, 0-2 ODAC) four points. Guilford's Katie Claggett used a tiebreaker for a 4-6, 6-0, 10-5 triumph over Gaelin McLeod at first singles. Teammate Ashley Galvin won in straight sets at sixth singles for the Quakers.
Coach Dave McCain's team hits the road for weekend league matches at Randolph-Macon College Saturday (3/5) and at Virginia Wesleyan College Sunday (3/6).
