GREENSBORO, N.C. – Lynchburg College's Sarah Wyly took a 6-3, 6-4, decision at third singles to clinch the visiting Hornets' Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) tennis victory over Guilford College Saturday night at the Piedmont Indoor Tennis Center.
The Hornets (5-4, 1-1 ODAC) claimed two of three doubles matches, including a narrow 8-7 win at third doubles where Wyly and Lilli Altenburg prevailed over the Quakers' Nora Prokosch and Chandler MacDonald in a tie-breaker, 7-4.
Altenburg joined Wyly as a two-time winner for Lynchburg with a 6-0, 6-1, triumph over Guilford's Leigh Fishman at fourth singles.
Katie Claggett won twice for Guilford (4-3, 3-2 ODAC). She teamed with Riley Caruana for the Quakers' lone doubles win at first doubles, 8-2, over the Hornets' Jerica Simmons and Valeria Erostegui. Claggett downed Erika Hadland at first singles, 7-5, 6-2.
Coach Dave McCain's Quakers are slated to host Roanoke College in a 1:00 p.m. league match Sunday (3/20).
