SWEET BRIAR, Va. – Caitlin Delmas won in both singles and doubles to lead Sweet Briar College past visiting Guilford College, 7-2, in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) tennis action Friday.
The Vixens (8-11, 5-7 ODAC) have won three straight and the Quakers (6-8, 3-7 ODAC) have dropped three straight.
Delmas teamed with Georgia Kirkland for a 9-8 win over Guilford's second-doubles tandem of Fernanda Gonzalez and Nora Prokosch. Sweet Briar's third-doubles pairing of Anna Colvin and Samantha Yew downed the Quakers' Luci Gordon and Chandler MacDonald, 8-3. Guilford's Halen Andrews and Allison Hewitt scored Guilford's lone doubles point with an 8-3 victory over Gina Rutledge and A.J. Lukanuski.
Delmas claimed the first-singles match with a 6-3, 6-0 win over the Quakers' Andrews. Lukanuski downed Hewitt at second singles, 6-2, 6-0, and Rutledge pulled out a 3-6, 6-0, 10-6 win over Gonzalez at third singles.
Guilford's Prokosch rallied for a 3-6, 7-5 (7-4), 10-5 triumph over Colvin in the number-four singles contest.
Coach Dave McCain's Quakers host nationally ranked Washington and Lee University Sunday (4/19) at 2:00 p.m. In the event of rain, the match will be contested at the Piedmont Indoor Tennis Center.
