GREENSBORO, N.C. - Amelia Verkerk pulled out a decisive 6-1, 6-3 fifth-singles win to lift Hollins University to a 5-4 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) tennis win at Guilford College Sunday.
Verkerk teamed with Victoria Coffee at second doubles for an 8-3 triumph over Guilford's Fernanda Gonzalez and Nora Prokosch. Hollins (5-8, 3-4 ODAC) claimed the third-doubles point as Hiet Myat San and Jhovanna Salmeron defeated Guilford's Luci Gordon and Chandler MacDonald, 8-4.
Coffee and San also posted singles wins to join Verkerk as two-time winners.
Guilford's Allison Hewitt contributed to two Quakers' points by winning both of her matches. She teamed with Haley Andrews for an 8-1 first-singles victory over Rikako Hirayama and Madeline Perry. Hewitt downed Perry at second singles, 6-3, 6-2. The Quakers' Gonzalez topped Salmeron at third singles, 6-0, 6-1, and Prokosch defeated Hirayama at fourth singles, 6-4, 6-2.
