GREENSBORO, N.C. – Senior Haley Andrews notched victories at first singles and first doubles Sunday in Guilford College's 6-3 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) tennis win over visiting Virginia Wesleyan.
Fernanda Gonzalez and Chandler MacDonald also both won twice for the Quakers (4-4, 2-4 ODAC), winners of two straight. The Marlins fell to 2-5 (1-5 ODAC) with the loss.
Andrews teamed with classmate Allison Hewitt for an 8-3 triumph at first singles, a fitting way to start the Quakers' Senior Day match. Guilford won all three doubles points. Gonzalez and Nora Prokosch pulled out an 8-6 win over the Marlins' Kristen Walden and Tiye Johnson at second doubles. MacDonald and Luci Gordon scored an 8-2 triumph at third doubles over Dara Gunter and Tyla Bush.
Gonzalez did not lose a game in her fourth-singles win over Bush, nor did MacDonald in her sixth-singles victory over Gunter. The win marked MacDonald's first collegiate singles triumph. Andrews downed Proctor in a close 6-3, 6-4 decision at first singles.
Coach Dave McCain's Quakers visit league-rival Hollins University Friday (4/3) in a match rescheduled from March 13.
