LYNCHBURG, Va. – Guilford College's women's tennis team picked up its first Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) win of the season with a 7-2 road victory over Lynchburg College Saturday.
The Quakers (3-4, 1-4 ODAC) captured two of three doubles points and five of six singles points. Guilford's top doubles tandem of Haley Andrews and Allison Hewitt downed Lynchburg's Melissa Drinkard and Catherine So, 8-1. Guilford's Fernanda Gonzalez and Nora Prokosch took the second-doubles match, 8-3, over the Hornets' Kelsey Dowling and Jerica Simmons. Lynchburg's Megan Tillou and Kate Kline downed the Quakers' Luci Gordon and Chandler MacDonald, 8-1.
Guilford won the top-five singles contests in straight sets. Prokosch did not lose a game in a 6-0, 6-0, victory over Simmons. Gonzalez dropped just two games in a 6-2, 6-0, third-singles win over Dowling. Luci Gordon did likewise in a 6-2, 6-0, fifth-singles triumph over Tillou.
Kline had a hand in both Lynchburg (0-6, 0-4 ODAC) points as she topped Chandler MacDonald at sixth singles, 6-1, 6-2.
Coach Dave McCain's club hosts Virginia Wesleyan College Sunday (3/29) at 1:00 p.m. on the McMichael Centennial Class Courts.
