BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Bridgewater College claimed a 9-0 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) women's tennis victory over visiting Guilford College Sunday.
The Eagles (6-2, 3-1 ODAC) opened the match by winning all three doubles points. Katie Gordon and Maria Hawkins teamed for an 8-2 win over Guilford's top tandem of Haley Andrews and Allison Hewitt. The closest doubles match was in the number-three flight where the Eagles' Holly Knupp and Whitney Cash prevailed over the Quakers' Mara Stern and Fernanda Gonzalez, 8-4.
Gordon captured the first-singles match with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Guilford's Andrews. Hawkins was a 6-1, 6-1, winner over Hewitt at second-singles. Guilford's Fernanda Gonzalez played Jessie Mitchell to a 6-3, 6-4, decision.
Coach Dave McCain's Quakers (4-6, 3-4 ODAC) play at Bluefield College Friday (3/28) at 2:30 p.m.
