MISENHEIMER, N.C. –Pfeiffer University ran its record to a perfect 8-0 with a 9-0 women's tennis victory over visiting Guilford College Sunday.
Playing their third match in as many days, the Quakers (3-3) won just one doubles game and six singles games on the afternoon. Guilford also played without sophomore Fernanda Gonzalez, the team's usual starter at fourth singles and second doubles.
Pfeiffer's Olivia Nelms teamed with Hannah Watson for an 8-0 win over Guilford's Madison Giles and Forest Melcher at second doubles. Nelms later claimed a 6-0, 6-1 decision at first singles over the Quakers' Haley Andrews. Nelms was one of five Falcons who won in both singles and doubles.
Sunday's match marked the start of a seven-match road trip for Guilford. The Quakers visit perennial Old Dominion Athletic Conference-rival Washington and Lee University Wednesday (3/5) at 4:30 p.m.
