SALEM, Va. -- Guilford College's women's tennis team dropped a 7-2 decision at Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) rival Roanoke College Friday. The Maroons are ranked 19th in the April 11 Division III ITA Atlantic South Region rankings.
The Quakers' (5-7, 2-6 ODAC) Fernanda Gonzalez won both of her matches. The rookie defeated Lauren Marszai at sixth singles in a third-set tiebreak, 5-7, 6-2, 10-5. Roanoke (10-3, 8-1 ODAC) dominated singles, winning first and second singles, 6-1, 6-1. Guilford's Kim Kleimeier took her third-singles first set into tiebreak but was defeated, 7-6 (7-1), 6-1.
Gonzalez paired with Allison Hewitt to represent the Quakers' only doubles win. The third-doubles tandem bested Kaitlyn Diskerud and Brianna Carroll, 8-6. Guilford's Haley Andrews and Allie Guy dropped their first-doubles match, 8-0.
The Quakers next play on the road Saturday, Apr. 13 against Lynchburg College and Randolph College, both conference opponents. The games commence at 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. respectively.
The team returns home for its final match of the season Sunday, Apr. 14 against ODAC foe Washington and Lee University at 2:00 p.m.
