SWEET BRIAR, Va. – Guilford College's women's tennis team claimed its fourth straight win Friday with a 7-2 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) triumph at Sweet Briar College. The Quakers claimed two of three doubles matches and five of six singles tilts.
Sophomore Haley Andrews teamed with Allie Guy for an 8-6 win at first doubles and picked up a 6-4, 6-2 first-singles' triumph over the Vixens' Sarah Manter. Guy was also a double winner after taking a 6-2, 7-6 (7-3) decision over Sweet Briar's Rachel Byrd at fifth singles.
Dominique Crespo and Allison Hewitt scored an 8-3 third-doubles win and then recorded straight-set singles victories at fourth and sixth singles, respectively.
Sweet Briar (4-7, 1-4 ODAC) won at second doubles when Sarah Manter and Emma Merritt-Cuneo downed the Quakers' Kim Kleimeier and Natalie Sutton, 8-4. Sutton retired from her second singles' match with Glory Bowman, resulting in Sweet Briar's second point.
Coach Dave McCain's Quakers (5-2, 2-4 ODAC) visits regionally ranked Methodist University Wednesday (4/3) at 3:00 p.m.
