Quakers Drop Season's First Men's Basketball Decision to Dickinson

ASHLAND, Va. – Adam Honig scored 23 of his game-high 25 points in the first half of Dickinson College's 90-75 win over Guilford College Saturday in the Coaches' Classic at Randolph-Macon College. Honig made five three-pointers, part of the Red Devils 17 trifectas in 29 attempts (58.6%) in the game.

The loss marks the first of the year for Guilford (9-1), which is ranked 17th in the latest D3hoops.com Top 25 Poll. The Red Devils move to 9-1 with their seventh straight win.

Honig shot five-for-seven from three-point range in the opening half, part of Dickinson's 11-of-16 long-range shooting in the frame. The Red Devils used the long ball to turn an early five-point deficit into a 28-point lead three minutes before halftime.

The trifectas kept falling in the second half as Dickinson built a 30-point lead midway through the period. Gary Wixted, who finished with four three-pointers, scored 10 of his 16 points in the second stanza and collected a game-best seven rebounds. Teammate Brandon Angradi also knocked home four triples and finished with 12 points. Dickinson shot nearly 57 percent from the floor against a Quakers' defense that entered the game ranked 16th among NCAA Division III defensive field-goal percentage leaders (.375).

Guilford junior Matt McCarthy led the Quakers with 16 points and three three-pointers. Jake Hopkins added 15 points and a team-high five rebounds. Rookie Josh Spainhour tallied six points and dished out a game-high five assists. Zeb Richardson scored nine points and had four rebounds. The Quakers managed just five-of-23 shooting from three-point range.
