BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Bridgewater College ended Guilford College's six-match winning streak with Saturday's 8-1 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) women's tennis victory over the visiting Quakers.
Katie Gordon posted a 6-0, 6-1 win over Guilford's Haley Andrews at first singles and teamed with Katy Bergey for an 8-1 first-doubles triumph over the Quakers' Natalie Sutton and Kim Kleimeier. Bergey downed Sutton at second singles, 6-1, 6-0. The Eagles (9-4, 7-1 ODAC) claimed each of the six singles contests in straight sets.
Guilford's victory came at second doubles where the rookie tandem of Andrews and Allison Hewitt scored an 8-6 win over Bridgewater's Brittany Wilson and Olivia Stone.
Coach Dave McCain's Quakers (9-8, 6-4 ODAC) club now awaits the announcement of the ODAC Women's Tennis Tournament, which uses an dual-match format and begins April 21.
