FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Methodist University convincingly swept both men's and women's tennis matches from visiting Guilford College Saturday. The Monarchs' men claimed an 8-1 win, while Methodist's women captured a 9-0 decision.
Methodist's women improved to 5-1 thanks to six straight-set singles victories. Guilford is 3-2. The Monarchs dropped just 10 points in the six matches, two in the top-three flights. Kaitlin Flaherty, ranked 18th in the most recent Campbell's/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division III Atlantic South Rankings, downed Guilford's Mackey Wesner, 6-0, 6-0. She teamed with Katherine Meindl at first doubles for an 8-1 win over Guilford's Wesner and Natalie Sutton. Flaherty and Meindl are ranked 10th in the latest regional doubles ratings.
The Quakers return to action Sunday in Virginia. Guilford's men visit Ferrum College and the Quakers' women visit Old Dominion Athletic Conference rival Hollins University.
