Box Score GREENSBORO, N.C. (2/24/10) -- Carrie Ernst scored her fourth goal with 3:15 remaining in the game to give Guilford College a 9-8 victory over Greensboro College Wednesday in the Quakers' season opener. The victory marked Guilford's sixth in a row against its crosstown rivals.
Ernst's game winner capped a 3-0 Quakers' spurt over a 78-second span that erased a short-lived 8-6 deficit.
Layne Woodard's back-to-back tallies gave Greensboro a two-goal edge, but Ernst scored with 4:33 left in the game and set up Summer Frazier's game-tying score 30 seconds later before netting the game winner. The Quakers' Ellie Merritt won the ensuing draw control and Guilford preserved the win by keeping possession for the final 3:15.
Alyzza May-Callahan made 15 saves in goal for Guilford, which was outshot, 31-16.
Woodard netted a team-high three goals and four points for the Pride. Christie Hebert and Melissa Gallaher both scored twice.
Guilford hosts Marymount University Saturday (2/27) at 3:00 p.m. in the Armfield Athletic Center.
