Quakers End Regular Season With Win at Randolph

LYNCHBURG, Va. (2/20/10) - Tyler Sanborn had 18 points and 11 rebounds, both game highs, in visiting Guilford College's 71-58 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) basketball win at Randolph College Saturday.

Sanborn's league-leading 22nd double-double of the year capped the Quakers' best regular-season in school history. Ranked fourth in this week's D3hoops.com Top 25 Poll, Guilford finished its regular season with a 23-2 overall record, 14-2 in the league. Randolph drops to 10-15 (4-12 ODAC).

Josh Pittman scored all 12 of his points in the first half, nine on three-pointers, to spark Guilford to a 34-25 halftime lead.

Randolph made it a 42-39 game five minutes into the second half on two Dylan Shifflett free throws, but Guilford responded with eight straight points to regain a 50-39 edge with 10:50 left in regulation. The Wildcats drew no closer than seven points the rest of the way.

Sanborn had seven offensive rebounds and three blocks in the win. He became the sixth student in Guilford's men's basketball history to reach the 1,000 career points and 1,000 career rebounds milestone. Sanborn now stands 18th among Guilford's all-time scoring leaders with 1,249 points and fifth in career rebounds (1,008).

Clay Henson added 13 points and a game-high six assists for Guilford. Teammate Martin Stephenson contributed 10 points and six boards.Bonner Rhett Bonner (right) had nine points, six rebounds and three assists. He became the 30th member of Guilford's 1,000 career points club.

Caleb Pearson led Randolph with 14 points and four assists. Jason Rutschman had 13 points and Derrick Woods-Morrow added 12 for the Wildcats.

Guilford returns to action in the ODAC Tournament quarterfinals Friday (2/26) in Salem, Va. The second-seeded Quakers will play either Lynchburg College or Roanoke College at 6:00 p.m.
