Hot-Shooting Quakers Thump Emory & Henry, 99-57

EMORY, Va. (1/13/10) – Rhett Bonner scored a game-high 20 points and had five assists to lead Guilford College past Emory & Henry College, 99-57, Wednesday night in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) men's basketball game.

Bonner made his first six three-pointers, all in the first half, as the Quakers raced to a 61-22 halftime lead in their ninth straight win. Guilford shot 72.7 percent (24-33) from the floor in the first half, including nine-of-13 (69.2%) from three-point land.

Guilford's Tyler Sanborn added 17 points and 11 rebounds for his ninth straight double-double. He became Guilford's 29th member of the 1,000-career points club with a first-half basket. Sanborn has 1,009 points, which stands 28th in school history.

The Quakers enjoyed a 57-30 rebounding advantage. Guilford set season highs for rebounds and points in a game.

Terrance Grigg paced Emory & Henry (2-13, 0-6 ODAC) with 12 points. The Wasps shot just 30.1 percent from the floor, including six-for-38 (15.8%) from three-point range.

Guilford, ranked sixth in this week's D3hoops.com Top 25 Poll, hosts eighth-ranked Virginia Wesleyan College Saturday at 2:00 p.m. The Marlins (14-1, 5-1 ODAC) dealt the Quakers their lone loss of the year, 71-68, in Virginia Beach, Va., Dec. 5.
