Box Score Greensboro, N.C. (1/14/09) -- Guilford College used a strong second half to defeat visiting Emory & Henry College, 97-70, in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) men's basketball action Wednesday night. The Quakers lead by only four early in the second half before embarking on a 15-4 run over the next seven minutes that put the game out of reach. The Quakers' Clay Henson lead all scorers with 28 points on the night. Classmate Tyler Sanborn notched his eighth double-double for Guilford with 19 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
Henson hit for 18 first-half points and helped the Quakers (11-3, 4-1 ODAC) to a double-digit lead late in the first half. The Wasps' Robert Hudson drilled a three-pointer at the first-half horn to cut the margin to 50-43. Emory and Henry (7-8, 1-5 ODAC) cut the lead to four early the second half, but Guilford scored 30 of the next 41 points during a decisive 10-minute stretch to put the game away. The Quakers made 47 percent of its second-half field goals while holding Emory & Henry to 19 percent shooting from the floor in the second period. Hudson led all Wasps scoring a team-high 16 points.
Guilford's Gabriel Lowder and Rhett Bonner scored 14 and 12 points, respectively.
The Quakers return to action Saturday (1/17) at league-rival Virginia Wesleyan College in the second meeting between the two schools this season. Emory & Henry hosts league-rival Randolph-Macon College Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
