Women's Lacrosse Rallies to Defeat Randolph-Macon, 13-12

ASHLAND, VA (4/5/08) -- Mary Hutchins scored five goals, including four in the second half, to lift Guilford College to a 13-12 lacrosse win at Randolph-Macon College on Saturday afternoon in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play.

With Guilford (6-4, 2-1 ODAC) up 1-0, the Yellow Jackets (4-8, 4-2 ODAC) took the lead on back-to-back goals by Kelly Cramer. The Quakers then went on a four-goal run as Jordan Clodfelter connected on a pair of strikes, while Hutchins and Carrie Ernst added scores for a 5-2 Guilford lead with 10:45 remaining in the first half.

Randolph-Macon's Logan Pomeroy sparked a 5-1 run with a goal at the 10:16 mark. The Jackets led, 7-5, in the closing seconds of the first stanza before Clodfelter struck again with under a minute remaining to make the score 7-6 at halftime.

Randolph-Macon opened the second half with consecutive tallies by Emily Kent in the first 2:12 for a 9-6 edge. Guilford cut the Jackets' lead to 9-8 with a pair of goals before Green gave Randolph-Macon a 10-8 edge with 23:56 left in the game.

Guilford scored the next five goals of the game, four off the stick of Hutchins, to go up 13-10 with 4:38 to play.

Morgan Hutchinson scored with just over three minutes remaining to pull Randolph-Macon within two at 13-11, but Guilford ran down the clock in the final two minutes to seal the victory.

Kent tallied three scores for Randolph-Macon, while Hutchinson, Green and Cramer all had two goals in the loss. Lindsay Schabert made 13 stops in net for the Jackets.

Guilford also got four goals from Clodfelter, while goalkeeper Alyzza-May Callahan improved to 6-1 by turning away 10 Yellow Jackets' shots.

Randolph-Macon returns to action on Sunday when it takes on Greensboro College at home at 2:00 p.m. The Quakers visit the University of Mary Washington Sunday (4/6) at 2:00 p.m.
