Big Second Half Propels Guilford Over Bridgewater, 17-7

Greensboro, N.C. (3/24/07) -- Jordan Clodfelter scored five goals to lead Guilford College past Bridgewater College Saturday, 17-7, in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) women's lacrosse match in the Armfield Athletic Center.

The Quakers (3-5, 1-2 ODAC) erased a three-goal deficit for their second straight win and first league victory. Abby Morris scored for the Eagles (2-4, 0-3 ODAC) 13:32 before halftime, which gave the guests a 5-2 lead. Rookies Ellie Merrit and Carrie Ernst tallied for Guilford before the break, which trimmed the Quakers' deficit to 5-4 at halftime.

Ernst scored twice in a 50-second span as Guilford netted four goals in the first 2:38 of the second half to grab an 8-5 edge. The Quakers' Mary Hutchins scored the first of her three goals with 20:43 remaining to cap a decisive 7-0 Guilford run over the two halves. After Bridgewater's Sarah Wade scored her second goal at the 16:26 mark of the second half, the Quakers scored seven of the game's final eight goals, two apiece by Clodfelter and Hutchins.

Merrit finished with a career-high four goals for Guilford. Hutchins tallied five points on three goals and two assists. Ernst netted a personal-best three goals and added an assist for a career-high four points. Allison Brown tallied twice and had one assist. Jennifer Abelin picked up a game-high six ground balls and rookie Jessica Bolton made seven stops in goal for Guilford.

Wade shared team-high scoring honors with Emily Bauer, who also scored twice. Colleen Schwind made 15 saves in goal for the Eagles, who were outshot, 41-15.

The Quakers return to action Wednesday (3/28) travleing to play non-conference Methodist in a 4:00 p.m. game. Bridgewater returns home for a three-game homestand starting with a March 27 tilt against Ferrum at 4:00 p.m.
