Box Score Harrisonburg, Va. (2/11/07) - Junior Ben Strong scored 29 points and added 16 rebounds, both game highs, in Guilford's 84-75 Old Dominion Athleic Conference (ODAC) win at Eastern Mennonite Sunday afternoon. The Quakers' fifth straight win gave them a sweep of the season series with the Royals and raised their record to 19-3, Guilford's best 22-game standard since 1974-75.
Strong, a 6-11 center, had 12 points and 11 boards at halftime. Guilford erased an early five-point deficit with a 12-0 run capped by a Caleb Kimbrough three-pointer with 7:32 left in the half. The Quakers held a 37-25 halftime lead.
Guilford built its advantage to 18 points in the second half, but the Royals rallied to within five points thanks to an 18-6 spurt midway through the period that included a pair of three-pointers by John Overstreet.
Behind Strong and Jordan Snipes (18 points), Guilford restored its lead to 11 points, but the Royals twice whittled the margin to six points. Jered Lyons' three-pointer with 1:21 remaining made it a 80-74 game, but the Royals managed just one point the rest of the way.
Strong scored a season-high 13 points from the free-throw line in 15 attempts, which offset eight-for-20 shooting from the floor. Eric Belkoski managed only two points, but grabbed eight rebounds to help the Quakers win the battle of the boards, 47-34. Thomas Burge finished with eight points, four boards and four assists.
Jason Sager paced three Royals in double-figure scoring with 22 points and 12 rebounds. Lyons finished with 16 points thanks to a game-high four three-pointers. Overstreet added 13 points and seven boards off the bench. Eastern Mennonite's bench outscored its Guilford counterparts, 38-21.
The Quakers close their home schedule Wednesday night against Washington and Lee at 7:00 p.m. Eastern Mennonite visits Randolph-Macon Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m.
