Box Score Bridgewater, Va. (2/10/07) - Ben Strong scored 28 points and grabbed eight rebounds Saturday evening to lead the Guilford College Quakers to a 74-52 victory over the Bridgewater College Eagles in ODAC basketball action.
Guilford, ranked 24th in this week's D3hoops.com Top 25 Poll, improved to 18-3 overall and 12-3 in the ODAC while the Eagles dropped to 7-15 overall and 4-11 in conference play.
Guilford held Bridgewater to just one field goal in the first eight minutes of the game and jumped out to a quick 15-2 lead.
The Quakers led by 16 points, 26-10 with 8:32 left in the first half before the Eagles put together their best run of the game. Bridgewater scored the next 11 points to pull within five.
Michael Oblitey hit two foul shots and Josh Fox knocked down a 3-pointer to make the score 26-15. Oblitey then drained back-to-back 3-pointers to pull the Eagles within five, 26-21, with 5:40 left in the half.
The Quakers then regained control and stretched the lead to 13, 43-30, at the half.
The dynamic duo of Strong and Jordan Snipes was virtually unstoppable in the first 20 minutes. Snipes scored all 19 of his points in the first half, hitting 7-of-10 shots from the floor. He passed the 1,000-point mark for his career with a jumper at the 13:09 mark of the first half. Strong was a perfect 7-of-7 from the field and scored 14 in the opening half.
Guilford opened the second half with the first two buckets to push its lead to 17 points and the Eagles never threatened the rest of the way.
Strong made his first 12 shots of the game and finished 14-of-15 from the floor. The Quakers made 57.9 percent of their shots during the game.
For the Eagles, Oblitey and Fox each scored 12 points. Bridgewater entered the game making 50.4 percent of its shots, but managed to shoot just 32.6 percent against the Quakers.
