Box Score

Greensboro, N.C. (12/05/07) -- Guilford College's men's basketball team yielded its fewest points in 85 games Wednesday night in a 74-48 nonconference victory over Methodist University in the Quakers' Ragan-Brown Field House. The Quakers (3-1) are ranked seventh in this week's D3hoops.com Top 26 Poll and won their seventh straight game against the Monarchs (5-2).

Guilford senior center Ben Strong led all scorers with 21 points and shared game-high rebounding honors with 10.

Methodist made just one of its first seven field goals and Guilford senior forward Eric Belkoski scored seven of his 12 points in the opening 1:45, which staked the Quakers to an early 12-2 lead. Senior forward Billy McDade's three-pointer with 15:15 left in the half pulled the visitors to within 12-9, but Methodist missed its next five shots during an 11-0 Guilford run. Strong had 12 first-half points and Belkoski added 11 as the Quakers enjoyed a 42-26 halftime lead.

Guilford owned a 32-12 first-half rebounding edge and finished with 58 boards to the Monarchs' 32. Methodist drew no closer than 12 points in the second half.

Guilford sophomore guard Clay Henson scored 14 points and junior teammate George Neville added 10 markers off the bench to give the Quakers four double-figure scorers for the first time this year. Belkoski shared game-high rebounding honors with Strong. Sophomore center Tyler Sanborn chipped in with six points, eight boards and three blocked shots.

McDade, freshman guard LeuMichael Smith, and junior forward Travis McBryde led the Monarchs with 10 points apiece. Methodist entered the game shooting 54.6 percent from the floor as a team, but managed only 28.6 percent at Guilford. McBryde and junior forward Antwin Shuford shared club-high rebounding honors with seven.

The Quakers defeated the Williamson Trade School, 98-47, Nov. 20, 2004, in the second game of the 2004-05 season. Methodist's 48 points mark the third-lowest total allowed by a Guilford side in head coach Tom Palombo's four-plus years on the Quakers' sidelines.

Guilford visits North Carolina Wesleyan College Saturday (12/8) in a nonconference game at three o'clock. The Monarchs play at Maryville (Tenn.) Dec. 15.
