Box Score Greensboro, N.C. (1/20/07) --Ben Strong scored 19 of his game-high 30 points in the second half to rally Guilford past visiting Bridgewater, 70-66, Saturday in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) basketball game.
The Quakers, ranked 20th in this week's D3hoops.com Top 25 Poll, move to 12-2 overall (6-2 ODAC), which matches the team's best start since the 1975-75 season. Bridgewater falls to 4-10 overall, 1-6 in the league.
Bridgewater grabbed an 11-point first-half lead thanks to solid outside shooting before the Quakers pulled to within 34-32 at halftime. Dominic Trawick tallied nine of his team-high 15 points in the first half for the Eagles.
Guilford's rally continued into the second half as the Quakers opened the period on a 21-5 run that featured eight Strong points and seven of Jordan Snipes' 18 points. Bridgewater slowly got back into the game and pulled to within two points on Michael Oblitey's fourth three-pointer of the game, which made the score 62-60 with 4:10 to play.
Strong scored the Quakers' next five points as Guilford built its lead back to six points with 1:16 remaining, but the Eagles hung around thanks to back-to-back buckets by Jay Strotman and Josh Fox that made it a 68-66 Quakers' lead with 27 seconds remaining. Eric Belkoski made one of two free throws on Guilford's next possession and following a Bridgewater turnover, Caleb Kimbrough made one of two free throws with two seconds left to provide the final margin.
Strong, who added nine points and two blocks, made 12-of-20 field goals. Snipes added six rebounds and four steals to his 18-point night.
Oblitey finished with 14 points and three assists for the visitors. Teammate Matt Drewer scored 10 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds off the bench.
