Box Score Greensboro, NC (4/13/05) -- Sophomore midfielder Chelsea Rankin scored four goals and senior attack Meaghan Cromwell added three goals and two assists in visiting Roanoke's 13-9 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) women's lacrosse win at Guilford Wednesday. The victory improves Roanoke's (4-9, 2-4 ODAC) all-time record against the Quakers (5-8, 2-6 ODAC) to 20-0 and gives the Maroons a leg up in the teams' bid for a spot in the six-team ODAC Tournament.
Rankin, Cromwell and sophomore midfielder Rachel Hutchinson (Pasadena, MD/Chesapeake) scored two goals apiece in the Maroons' decisive second half. After the teams played to a 6-6 halftime tie, Hutchinson sandwiched her two scores around a Rankin tally to open a 9-6 Roanoke lead with 22:15 to play. Guilford drew to within 10-9 with 15:03 left on freshman midfielder Jordan Clodfelter's game-high fifth goal of the day, but no closer. Cromwell sandwiched two scores around an freshman attack Amanda Hutchins (Guilford, CT/Guilford) goal to close out the scoring.
Rankin (4 goals, 1 assist) and Cromwell (3 goals, 2 assists) each finished with five points. Hutchins and Hutchinson contributed two goals apiece. Senior goalie Liz Manfredini (Landenberg, PA/Kennett) made all five of her saves in the second half, which contributed to Guilford's 0-5 performance on second-half free-position shots.
Clodfelter scored a career-high five goals for Guilford and paced the Quakers with four draw controls. Freshmen Johanna Breed (South Berwick, ME/Marshwood) and Caryn Washington (Baltimore, MD/Park School) each scored twice in defeat.
