Box Score Guilford's men (7-4. 2-2 ODAC) defeated Randolph-Macon (6-6, 4-2 ODAC) for the first time since January 12, 1999, with a balanced defensive effort and excellent ball control. Freshmen Kerry Atkinson and Ben Strong each tallied a team-high 14 points and five rebounds off the bench. The Quakers' reserves outscored their counterparts, 55-22, and Guilford committed a season-low 12 turnovers. Atkinson tallied 11 of his points in eight first-half minutes. He scored seven points during a 19-6 Guilford run over the final 8:40 that turned a tie game into a 44-31 Quakers' edge at the break.
After the lead swelled to as many as 15 points early in the second half, Randolph-Macon pulled to within five points three times in the last five minutes, but drew no closer. Adam Krovic scored 12 of his game-high 18 points in the second half for Randolph-Macon. ODAC scoring and rebounding leader Justin Wansley posted his team-leading seventh double-double of the season with 16 points and game-high 12 boards. Justin Moyer totaled 14 points, four assists and three steals before fouling out.
Guilford looks for its sixth win in seven games when it hosts 14th-ranked Virginia Wesleyan Sunday (1/9) at 2:00 p.m. The Marlins suffered their first loss of the year Saturday, 69-65, at Emory & Henry. Randolph-Macon plays at Emory & Henry Sunday (1/9).
