Box Score Sophomore Pete Manos, Jr. scored a game-high 29 points, including two go-ahead free throws with 1:57 left in the game, to lead visiting Lynchburg to an 85-82 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) men's basketball win over Guilford Saturday. The win gives the Hornets (9-8, 6-4 ODAC) a sweep of the season series as Lynchburg claimed an 85-81 overtime triumph in Lynchburg, VA, Dec. 4.
The Hornets overcame a 10-point first-half deficit and grabbed a 55-64 lead midway through the second half after Manos Jr.'s fifth three-pointer of the game capped a 10-0 Lynchburg run. The Quakers (10-7, 5-5 ODAC) answered with a 22-7 spurt and opened a 76-59 edge with 5:21 left after an Ashford Gray three-pointer.
Gray's bucket marked Guilford's second-to-last field goal of the game as Lynchburg outscored Guilford, 16-9, in the final 5:21. Manos Jr. tallied seven of his 12 second-half points down the stretch, including the go-ahead free throws. He made nine-of-13 field goals, including five-of-seven three-pointers. Junior Andy Albright tallied 11 of his 16 points off the bench in the second half, including eight in the last three minutes. Senior Ryan Pehanick chipped in 13 points and a game-high eight boards for Lynchburg. The Hornets had 18 offensive rebounds, which led to 23 points.
Foul-shooting plagued the Quakers, as the hosts missed 12 free throws, including three in the final 4:19. Freshman Kerry Atkinson led Guilford with 21 points and five rebounds. Classmate Ben Strong added 15 points, four boards and three blocks.
