Box Score Guilford College won for the ninth time in its last 10
games with a 79-44 victory over Washington and Lee in ODAC men's basketball action on Wednesday evening at the Warner Center.
The Quakers (15-8, 10-5 ODAC) led by just seven points (30-23) with 2:05 remaining in the first half, but closed the stanza with an 8-0 run to assume a 38-23 halftime advantage. Guilford then began the second half with a 26-9 run to hand the Generals their worst home loss since the 1993-94 season.
W&L (6-17, 4-12 ODAC), which shot just 28.6 percent for the game, including 20.7 percent in the second half, was led by freshman guard Coleman Lyons (Atlanta, GA/Phillips Academy), who scored 15 points and grabbed five rebounds. Sophomore forward David Will (Fairfax, VA/Fairfax) added 10 points and six rebounds.
Guilford was led by senior forward Jevon Clarke (Apex, NC/Southeast Raleigh), who totaled 15 points and five boards. Clarke eclipsed the 1,000 career-point mark in the first half, becoming the 20th Quaker to do so. He now has 1,004 points. Sophomore forward Jamel Taylor (Palm Bay, FL/Brevard Christian) notched 12 points and 10 rebounds, both career highs. Sophomore forward Genaro Lawhorn (Greensboro, NC/Oak Ridge Military) registered 10 points and eight boards.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday as it travels to Eastern Mennonite for a 7:00 pm contest. Guilford plays at Roanoke Saturday at 2:00 pm.
