Box Score Sophomore forward Justin Wansley (Richmond, VA/Henrico) scored a game-high 17 points and grabbed five rebounds to help the Randolph-Macon College men's basketball team to a 88-51 win over visiting Guilford College in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action on Sunday, February 1. Also for the Yellow Jackets, junior guard Justin Moyer (Landisville, PA/Hempfield) scored 12 points and distributed nine assists for the second straight day, tying his career-high. Fellow junior guard Brandon Scott (Maple Glen, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) came off the bench to tie his career-high with 11 points, nine of those on three-pointers. He made all four of his field goal attempts.
With their seventh straight victory, the Yellow Jackets improved to 18-1 overall and 12-1 in the conference. Randolph-Macon is currently ranked #4 in the D3hoops.com website poll, which is released on Tuesdays. The Quakers, who came into the contest on a five-game winning streak, dropped to 11-8 on the season and 7-5 in the ODAC.
Randolph-Macon was ahead for the entire game. The lead was double digits from the 8:53 mark of the first half through the end of the contest. The biggest advantage for the Yellow Jackets in the opening period was 21 points, 32-11, with 2:58 remaining. The halftime margin was 19 points, 35-16.
The second half was much of the same, with the lead never going below 20 points in the final 17 minutes. Randolph-Macon head coach Mike Rhoades, in his fifth season, picked up his 99th career win as he was able to empty his bench and play all 17 men on his roster. The biggest lead for the Yellow Jackets proved to be the final margin of 37 points.
For Randolph-Macon, following the performances by Wansley, Moyer, and Scott, senior forward Kurt Bergmann (Fallsington, PA/Pennsbury) and senior guard Ryan Stein (Lawrenceville, NJ/Lawrence) each scored eight points. Bergmann also pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds, with 10 of those coming at the defensive end of the court. Freshman guard Adam Krovic (Durham, NC/Jordan) came off the bench to contribute seven points and five rebounds. Senior forward Jim Silcox (Newton, NC/Newton-Conover) and freshman guard Stephen Sutherland (Morgantown, WV/West Fairmont) each scored six points, while senior guard Buck Poropatich (Daphne, AL/Boca Raton [FL]) added five points, five rebounds, and three assists.
Guilford was led by senior forward Thomas Swindell (High Point, NC/Southwest Guilford), with 14 points. Sophomore center Genaro Lawhorn (Greensboro, NC/Oak Ridge Military Academy) scored 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting (83.3%). Senior guard Ron Bradford (Eden, NC/Greensboro Day) scored six points on two three-pointers. Another senior guard, Devon Clyburn (Charlotte, NC/South Mecklenburg), added five points and three assists. Guilford's leading rebounder was senior forward Jevon Clarke (Apex, NC/Southeast Raleigh), with seven boards.
