DiCAVE POWERS VIRGINIA WESLEYAN PAST GUILFORD, 16-7, IN ODAC WOMEN'S LACROSSE

Greensboro, NC (04/13/02) -- National scoring leader Meagan DiCave (Eddystone, PA/Ridley) scored four goals and six assists to lead visiting Virginia Wesleyan to a 16-7 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) women's lacrosse victory at Guilford Saturday.

DiCave, who led all NCAA divisions in points per game through games of April 7, scored two goals and added four helpers during a decisive 10-0 Marlins' (6-6, 3-3 ODAC) run that turned a 4-4 contest into a 14-4 rout with 14:23 left in the game. Guilford sophomore Lauren Goodwin (Newburyport, MA/Newburyport) tied the game at four with 10:02 left in the first half, but Virginia Wesleyan rookie attack Megan Parris (Sewickley, PA/Quaker Valley) answered 34 seconds later and triggered the Marlins' outburst. Parris set up sophomore Anne Marie Nash's (Norfolk, VA/Norfolk Academy) first of three goals less than two minutes later and then closed the first-half scoring with two goals to give the visitors an 8-4 edge at halftime.

DiCave opened the second half with an unassisted tally and scored two more in the period to finish with four goals. Through 12 games, the senior attack has 82 points on 46 goals and 36 assists.

Guilford (0-13, 0-8 ODAC) netted three goals in the final 3:39 to provide the final margin, including two by sophomore attack Kathryn Ragin (Pawleys Island, SC/Hyde School (CT)). Ragin finished with four goals on the day and defended her season scoring title with a club-high 36 points (33g, 3a). Freshman Sarah Routhier (N. Yarmouth, ME/Greely) added a goal and two assists in the losing cause.

Guilford freshman goalie Lindsey Kennedy (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) recorded 20 saves to finish her first college season with a school-record 231 stops on the year. She had six games with at least 20 saves, including a school-record 30-save effort in the Quakers' 22-4 loss at Roanoke Mar. 2.

The contest marked the Quakers' season finale, while Virginia Wesleyan plays at Greensboro College Sunday (04/14).
