Fayetteville, NC (03/06/02) -- Methodist picked up its second consecutive women's lacrosse win this afternoon with a 14-7 victory over visiting Guilford. The Monarchs' offense erupted for 12 second-half goals after the teams battled to a 2-2 halftime score.
Methodist gave the 185 Monarch fans plenty to cheer about after intermission as senior Emily Neilsen (St. Louis, MO) and freshman Tracy Goff (Barrington, RI) scored back-to-back unassisted goals to open the second frame. Neilsen was the top scorer for Methodist as she netted a career-high three goals. Goff added a goal in the game's final minute for her pair of scores. Metyodist used a balanced offensive attack to wear down the Quakers as six different Monarchs enjoyed a multiple-goal afternoon.
Guilford was paced by sophomore Kathryn Ragin's (Pawley's Island, SC) three goals while rookie teammate Sarah Routhier (North Yarmouth, ME) added a pair of scores.
In goal, Methodist's Ashley Allen (FR/Manassas, VA) saved nine Quakers' shots and Guilford freshman Lindsey Kennedy (Liverpool, NY) stopped 24 shots between the pipes for the Quakers.
Methodist, which is under the direction of first-year head coach Heather Stafford, is in its inaugural season of intercollegiate competition.
