Game Statistics

Greensboro, NC (02/12/02) --Sophomore forward Josh Connor (Greensboro, NC/Northwest Guilford) led four Guilford players in double-figure scoring with 15 points and matched a career-high with 13 rebounds in the Quakers' 78-67 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) men's basketball win over Emory & Henry Tuesday night in the Ragan-Brown Field House. The contest marked the regular-season finale for both teams.

Guilford raised its overall record to 15-10, its most wins in a season since the 1988-89 team went 16-10. The win gave the Quakers a 10-8 ODAC record, breaking the school standard for ODAC wins in a season set by last year's 9-9 unit.

Connor, who made seven of eight shots from the floor, scored nine points in the second half. He had five points during a decisive 9-0 Quakers' run that turned a three-point deficit into a 46-40 edge with 14:07 remaining. Guilford's lead grew to as many as 10 before the Wasps pulled to within 60-56 with six minutes left on a layup by sophomore guard Justin Call (Ronda, NC/East Wilkes). Emory & Henry drew no closer as the Wasps struggled shooting from the floor in the second half (.262).

Guilford survived 24 turnovers in the contest, thanks in part to 53.3 percent second-half field-goal shooting and a 56-35 rebounding advantage. In addition to Connor's fifth double-double of the year, senior center Aron McMillian (Greensboro, NC/Greensboro Day) contributed his team-leading eighth double-double (14 points, 10 rebounds) and blocked five shots. Senior Paul Kindem (Chapel Hill, NC/East Chapel Hill) totalled 12 points and six boards, while sophomore forward Jevon Clarke (Apex, NC/Southeast Raleigh) added 10 points off the bench, eight in the second half, and eight rebounds.

Call led all scorers with 19 points, 14 in the second half, on seven-of-24 shooting from the floor. Junior guard Jay Rosser (Altavista, VA/Altavista) added 13 points off the bench for the Wasps (13-12, 7-11 ODAC).

The Quakers are seeded sixth for their second straight ODAC Tournament appearance and meet third-seeded Hampden-Sydney (19-5, 13-5 ODAC) at 8:00 p.m. Saturday in the Salem (VA) Civic Center. Emory & Henry received the seventh seed and faces number-two Virginia Wesleyan Saturday at 6:00 p.m.
