Game Statistics

Greensboro, NC (01/09/02) -- Senior guard Paul Kindem (Chapel Hill, NC/East Chapel Hill) scored 17 of his career-high 25 points in the second half to lead Guilford to its first men's basketball win over Roanoke since 1992, 95-81, Wednesday night at Greensboro Day School. The Maroons entered the contest with a 20-game winning streak versus Guilford since a 95-92 Quakers' victory February 22, 1992.

Kindem and freshman guard Clarence Martin (Reidsville, NC/Reidsville) each connected on four of Guilford's school-record tying 14 three-pointers as the Quakers posted their most points in an ODAC game since 1995. Guilford (7-5, 4-3 ODAC), off to its best start since 1992-93, matched the trifectas mark set February 11, 1994, versus Methodist.

The Maroons (7-5, 2-4 ODAC) shot 53.6 percent from the floor in the first half to offset 12 Guilford three-pointers and take a 42-41 halftime lead. The teams traded baskets in the opening minutes of the second period before a Kindem layup with 17:46 gave Guilford the lead for good (47-46). The Maroons went cold shooting from the floor in the second half (34.4%), which enabled the hot-shooting Quakers to slowly increase their lead to as many as 14 points (78-64) with 5:24 remaining. Guilford made 19 of 30 field goals (63%) in the second half, en route to a season-high 53.1% field-goal shooting performance.

A Robby Pridgen (Akron, OH/St. Vincent-St. Mary) three-pointer capped a 9-1 Maroons' run and pulled the visitors to within 79-72 with 3:22 left, but consecutive three-pointers by Martin and Kindem restored Guilford's lead to 85-72 with 2:11 left.

Guilford sophomore forward Jevon Clarke (Apex, NC/Southeast Raleigh) added 17 points and Martin finished with a career-high 16 points, plus five assists. Senior center Aron McMillian (Greensboro, NC/Greensboro Day) recorded his third double-double of the year with 13 points and a game- and career-high 13 rebounds.

Pridgen paced Roanoke with 20 points, followed by sophomore guard Josh Foster's (Roanoke, VA/Roanoke Valley Christian) 16 points and seven rebounds. Senior guard Jaimar Mansel (Akron, OH/St. Vincent-St. Mary) added 15 markers and a game-high three steals for the Maroons, who saw a four-game winning streak end with the defeat. Sophomore forward Jason Graffam (Vienna, VA/Marshall) grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds.

The Quakers visit league-rival Eastern Mennonite Saturday (1/12) at 2:00 p.m., while the Maroons entertain second-ranked Hampden-Sydney Saturday (1/12) at 3:00 p.m. The Tigers suffered their first loss Wednesday night at number-11 Randolph-Macon, 67-63, in a meeting of previously unbeaten ODAC squads.
