Greensboro, NC (03/27/01) -- Greensboro College defeated crosstown rival Guilford College, 8-4, at Haworth Field Tuesday afternoon, splitting the season series. Guilford's record dropped to 2-7 with the loss.
The Pride (2-3) struck first, jumping out to a 5-0 halftime lead. Sophomore midfielder Maura Smith (Davidsonville, MD/South River) had a hand in the first three goals, scoring two and assisting one. Freshman midfielder Rebecca Bennighove (Westminster, MD/Westminster) sealed the win by scoring the Pride's final four goals.
The Quakers got on the board when freshman attack Kathryn Ragin (Pawleys Island, SC/Hyde School (CT)) netted the first of her three goals nine and a half minutes into the second half. Freshman midfielder Sarah Marshall (Bethel, ME/Gould Academy) also picked up a goal in defeat. Guilford outshot Greensboro, 22-14, but Pride netminder Stephanie Schaeffer stood tall with 11 saves.
The Quakers visit Catholic this Friday (3/30) at 4:00.
