RANDOLPH-MACON BLISTERS GUILFORD IN ODAC MEN'S BASKETBALL WIN

Ashland, VA (01/06/01) — Host Randolph-Macon shot a blistering 71.4 percent from the floor and placed four players in double-figure scoring in a 94-64 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) men's basketball win over Guilford Saturday. The Yellow Jackets (7-4, 4-1 ODAC) posted their third straight victory while handing the Quakers (3-8, 2-3 ODAC) their third consecutive loss.

Randolph-Macon sophomore forward Jared Mills (Reading, PA/Reading Central Catholic) led all scorers with 14 points off the bench and added four assists and two blocked shots, both game highs. Mills scored eight of his markers in the second half when the Yellow Jackets hit better than 76 percent (16-21) from the floor.

Randolph-Macon scored 11 of the game's first 15 points and held Guilford scoreless for five minutes during a 25-4 run midway through the opening half. Rookie guard Shawn Collier (Midlothian, VA/Manchester) capped the spurt with a three-pointer to give the hosts a 36-12 lead with 5:23 before halftime. The Quakers narrowed the deficit to 39-23 by the break, but drew no closer than 13 points in the second half.

Collier and classmate Ryan Stein (Lawrenceville, NJ/Lawrence) each scored 12 points and junior forward Marshall Rumney (Lynchburg, VA/E.C. Glass) added 10 points plus a team-high four rebounds.

Senior center Todd Ashworth (High Point, NC/Southwest Guilford) led Guilford with 13 points and a game-high five rebounds off the bench. Junior forward Brad Woolley (Chapel Hill, NC/East Chapel Hill) added nine points and freshman forward Thomas Swindell (High Point, NC/Southwest Guilford) contributed with eight markers and three rebounds. Junior center Aron McMillan (Greensboro, NC/Greensboro Day) made his Guilford debut with three assists in seven scoreless minutes after transferring to the college at mid-semester from Division I Old Dominion.



The Yellow Jackets host Emory & Henry Sunday (1/7) in ODAC play while Guilford visits league-rival Virginia Wesleyan Monday night (1/8) at 8:00 P.M.
