Box Score

Greensboro, NC(1/29/01) -- Sophomore Jared Mills (Reading, PA/Reading Central Catholic) scored all 14 of his points in the second half to lift visiting Randolph-Macon past Guilford, 67-56, in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) men's basketball action Monday night. The Yellow Jackets (12-7, 9-4 ODAC) made 32 of 45 free throws to secure their fourth straight win.

Freshman forward Kurt Bergmann (Fallsington, PA/Pennsbury) scored all six of his second-half points during a decisive 11-0 run that gave Randolph-Macon an insurmountable 56-46 lead with 4:57 left. Senior center Todd Ashworth's (High Point, NC/Southwest Guilford) lay-in with 1:06 left pulled Guilford (9-11, 8-6 ODAC) to within 60-56, but the Quakers drew no closer. Mills made two free throws on the Yellow Jackets' next possession and freshman Ryan Stein (Lawrenceville, NJ/Lawrenceville) took a steal the length of the floor for a layup with 41 seconds left and sealed the win.

Guilford picked up its seventh team foul with 12:48 left in the game and Randolph-Macon converted 26 of 36 second-half free throws. With Guilford's twin towers of Ashworth and 6-9 junior center Aron McMillian (Greensboro, NC/Greensboro Day) sidelined with foul trouble, the Yellow Jackets erased a 46-45 deficit with their decisive run. Guilford missed all six field-goal attempts during Randolph-Macon's 11-0 spurt and shot 31.7 percent (19-60) from the floor for the game.

Randolph-Macon's Stein led all scorers with 16 points on two field goals and 11 free throws. Sophomore guard Tim Smith (Jacksonville, FL/Old Mill (MD)) scored 11 of his 14 points in the first half. Bergmann tossed in 13 points and led all rebounders with eight. Mills made one field goal and 12-of-16 free throws for his 14 points and added seven boards off the bench.

Sophomore Paul Kindem (Chapel Hill, NC/East Chapel Hill) paced the Quakers with 14 points, including a game-high three three-point goals. Ashworth finished with 11 points and a team-best six rebounds.

Guilford hits the road Saturday (2/03) for a 2:00 P.M. game at league-rival Bridgewater. Randolph-Macon visits Eastern Mennonite Wednesday (1/31) at 7:00 P.M. The Royals upset league-leading Hampden-Sydney Monday night, 70-62.
