GUILFORD RALLIES FOR ODAC HOOPS WIN OVER EASTERN MENNONITE

Box Score

Greensboro, NC (01/13/01) -- Senior guard Jaron Randall's (Trenton, NJ/Princeton Day) hurried basket with 1:51 left broke a 57-57 tie and lifted Guilford's men past Eastern Mennonite, 66-59, in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) match Saturday.

Eastern Mennonite (4-8, 2-5 ODAC) rallied from a 10-point first-half deficit and held a five-point second-half lead before the Quakers (5-9, 4-4 ODAC) rallied for their third home win in four games. After sophomore forward Brandon Knight's (Richmond, VA/Jefferson) free throw gave the guests a 47-42 lead with 9:57 left, Guilford held the Royals without a field goal for the next 4:20 and took the lead.

Six of the game's nine ties and seven of the contest's 14 lead changes took place in the final 6:31. Guilford sophomore guard Paul Kindem (Chapel Hill, NC/East Chapel Hill) knocked down his second three-pointer of the game with 2:48 left, which tied the score at 57-57. Senior center Neal Lewis (Glen Allen, VA/Benedictine) (9 pts., 12 reb.) missed a layup on the Royals' next possession before Guilford's Randall barely beat the shot clock with a running jumper in the lane to give the Quakers the lead for good at 59-57.

Two Alex Ivanitsky (Salem, OR/Western Mennonite) free throws drew Eastern Mennonite to within 60-59 with 1:01 left, but the Quakers made all six of their free throws in the final minute, including four by Kindem, to secure the win.

Kindem scored 11 of his game-high 20 points in the second half for Guilford, which scored 27 points off of 25 Royals' turnovers. Ivanitsky paced visitors with 17 points off the bench, 11 in the second half.

Guilford hosts nationally ranked Bridgewater (13-0, 7-0 ODAC) Monday night (1/17) at 7:00 P.M. The Eagles remained among the nation's four unbeaten Division III men's teams with a 91-83 overtime win at Emory & Henry Saturday.
