Scott Neely just completed his fifth season as an assistant coach with the Quakers with training goalkeepers as his primary responsibility. Previously he spent three seasons as a volunteer goalkeeper coach with the women’s soccer team at Greensboro College.
In his first season at Greensboro College, Neely helped coach the Pride to a 10-7-3 record tagging three players named to the all-conference teams, while also having three players lead the USA South Athletic Conference in goals, assists, and points.
In 2017, Neely helped lead Greensboro College to a 16-3 record, followed by a 17-1 record in 2018 that included a 16-0 mark during the regular-season. The Pride closed out conference play with a 7-0 record, earning the program's first regular-season title in 15 years.
Prior to his collegiate coaching tenure, Neely transitioned from a player to coach after transferring from Wilmington College to Wright State University to focus more on his academic goals. During this time, he spent three seasons as the men’s goalkeeper coach at Fairmont High School in Kettering, OH. For the first time in school history, they earned the title of district champions. After graduating in 1999, he then moved to Clemson, SC to pursue his master’s degree at Clemson University.
Shortly after moving to the City of Greensboro, Neely joined the coaching staff for both the men’s and women’s soccer teams at Southeast Guilford High School for six seasons before becoming the goalkeeper coach for the men’s soccer team at Page High School for two seasons.
Neely, a native of Dayton, OH, graduated from Wright State University in Dayton, OH with a BS in Urban Affairs. He later earned his master’s degree from Clemson University with a degree in Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management.
Scott is currently working toward his United Soccer Coaches Advanced National Goalkeeping Diploma. He resides in Greensboro with his wife, Amy, and his two children.
