Mark Frey finished his second season as the head men's lacrosse coach. The Quakers went 7-8 in 2023 with an ODAC record of 3-6. Over two seasons, the Quakers have gone 12-18 under Frey.
Frey comes to Guilford after serving as the offensive coordinator at Methodist University during the 2020 season. In a COVID-19 shorted season, he helped the Monarchs to a 5-3 record, in which they led the USA South Athletic Conference in assists with 87. This tally helped the squad to be ranked 27th in the nation in total points.
The McLean, Va. Native has held positions at Florida Southern College, Cleveland State (Ohio), fellow ODAC school Ferrum, Loyola Marymount University and Chapman University.
While serving as the assistant coach at NCAA Division II Florida Southern, the program had two winning seasons in which they saw their goals per game and total goals tallies multiply. Prior to his arrival, the Moccasins were averaging 10.27 goals per game (154 total), after his arrival they were averaging 15.75 goals per game (252 total).
Frey served as the first men's lacrosse head coach in Ferrum's history. He was able to lead his young squad to at least six wins in each of the first four years of the program. He wasted no time in establishing the program as a contender in the Southeast Independent Lacrosse Championships (SEILC), taking the inaugural title in 2015. After repeating as the champions in 2016 in the Panther's first winning season, Frey was named the SEILC Coach of the Year.
During his time at Ferrum, he reached three consecutive SEILC title games, coached two SEILC Defensive Players of the Year, one SEILC Long-Stick Midfielder of the Year and saw 12 players to all-league honors.
Frey served as the head coach of the Men's Colligate Lacrosse Association (MCLA) club program at Loyola Marymount for four seasons. During his time in California, he led the club to wins over national tournament contenders such as the University of Colorado and Texas State University. His squad also took down nationally-ranked schools such as the University of Arizona and the University of Texas. The Lions rounded out the 2010 season ranked 17th in the nation.
Prior to his tenure at Loyola Marymount, Frey was the offensive coordinator at Chapman.
His collegiate career began at The Ohio State University before he transferred to McDaniel College. During his time as a member Green Terror, he helped his squad to be ranked top-10 in the nation.
Frey earned a Bachelor of Arts from McDaniel College in 1998.
