LEXINGTON, VA. – The Guilford College men's tennis team (2-13, 2-5 ODAC) traveled to face No. 45 Washington & Lee University (9-9, 8-0 ODAC) on Tuesday afternoon, falling 7-0 to the conference leaders at the Upper Tennis Courts.
The match began with Washington & Lee securing the doubles point. At the No. 1 flight,
Emmanuel Oye (Clayton, N.C.) and
Alex Brown (Burlington, N.C.) managed to take two games from Henry Imorde and Heys Parker in a 6-2 decision. The No. 2 duo of
George Hardie (Liberty, N.C.) and
Turner Johnson (Oak Ridge, N.C.) fell 6-1 to Justin Ilie and Sanjheev Rao. The Generals claimed the final doubles tally at the No. 3 spot via default.
In singles play, Oye provided a gritty performance at the No. 1 position. He pushed Parker to the brink in the second set, nearly forcing a tiebreaker before falling 7-5. Hardie also put up a determined fight at the No. 2 spot, taking five games across two sets in a 6-2, 6-3 loss to Imorde.
Brown, Johnson, and
Chris Kelley (Lexington, N.C.) all faced tough assignments against a deep Washington & Lee roster at the No. 3, No. 4, and No. 5 positions, respectively. The Generals completed the victory with a win by default at the No. 6 singles flight.
The Quakers will return to the McMichael Courts on Friday, April 17th, as they host Roanoke College for another conference clash. First serve is set for 2:00 p.m.
