GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Guilford College men's lacrosse team (0-2, 0-0 ODAC) fell in their crosstown rivalry clash to Greensboro College (3-0, 0-0 USA South), 26-9 at Appenzeller Field at the Armfield Athletic Center on Wednesday evening.
The Pride blitzed the Quakers from the jump, outshooting GC 78-33 including 53-22 in shots on frame while winning 23 faceoffs against Guilford's 13.
Darius Safavi-Abbassi (Culver City, Calif.) was bereded with 38 shots on frame, saving 17 against 21 goals allowed in the losing effort to fall to 0-2. Braeden Mitchell played the first-three quarters for Greensboro, getting the win to improve to 3-0 after making nine saves against four goals conceded.
Jason Campbell (Fairfax, Va.) netted a hat trick for Guilford, adding an assist in a four-point day.
Adrian Moorman (Ottawa, Canada) also netted a trio for GC while
Nick Ianonne (Wellington, Fla.) scored a goal and an assist plus an 8-for-14 day in the circle and seven groundballs.
Kenneth Crowley (Charlotte, N.C.) and
Camo Campbell (Flowery Branch, Ga.) also had singular tallies in the game.
Antonio Puopolo (Holly Springs, N.C.) had four caused turnovers and
Dom Bialer (West End, N.C.) forced a pair and had four groundballs.
Eight different members of the Pride found the twine in the contest, lead by old friend
Seth Woods who racked up seven goals and six assists. Justin Barry netted six goals plus a couple helpers and Alex Mattoon pitched in five goals and three assists. Quinton Soloman went 15-for-24 as the lead man in the circle, scooping a team-high 11 groundballs while Riley Taff had three caused turnovers.
This one got out of hand fairly quick as the Pride racked up a swift six goals in the first quarter and the first nine overall before
Jason Campbell broke through for Guilford with just over six minutes left in the second. Moorman followed with his first-career goal before a pair of Woods tallies in the final 20 seconds closed the half with an 11-2 score.
Greensboro racked up 10 tallies in the third as the scoring got rampant, with Moorman netting a pair in the frame for the Quakers. In the fourth, the squads evenly divided their 10 combined goals as the score finished, 26-9.
Guilford hits the road for the first time on Saturday, visiting William Peace University on February 21
st starting at 7:00 PM.
