Women’s Tennis Completes Clean Sweep Versus Hollins University

Quakers secure 7-0 shutout at home behind strong doubles and singles performances

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Guilford College women's tennis team (4-3, 2-1 ODAC) dominated in conference play on Sunday afternoon, shutting out Hollins University (0-3, 0-1 ODAC) 7-0 at the Dorothy Ragsdale McMichael '37 Centennial Class Courts.
 
The Quakers set the tone early with a strong showing in doubles play, sweeping all three matches. At No. 1 doubles, Ashley Belnap (Winston-Salem, N.C.) and Erika Mendez (Asheville, N.C.) secured a 6-3 victory over Peja Cruise and Kristiahn Foster. The dominance continued at No. 2, where Jolie Nhouyvanisvong (Greensboro, N.C.) and Chandler Sizemore (Sandy Ridge, N.C.) blanked Rachel Hull and Sasha Mingo, 6-0. Guilford completed the sweep at No. 3 doubles as Amy Soto Salgado (Conover, N.C.) and Bethany Lupo (Tabor City, N.C.) cruised to a 6-0 win over Zilina Robinson and Elizabeth Angelo.

With a 1-0 lead heading into singles, Guilford continued its stellar play, winning all six matches in straight sets. At No. 1 singles, Belnap controlled the match from start to finish, defeating Cruise 6-0, 6-2. Mendez followed with an equally impressive 6-1, 6-0 win over Foster at No. 2. The Quakers remained dominant through the middle of the lineup. Nhouyvanisvong cruised past Mingo 6-0, 6-0 at court three, while Sizemore secured another shutout for Guilford, topping Hull 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4. Soto Salgado continued the sweep at No. 5 singles, overpowering Arabella Crookshanks 6-0, 6-0. Lupo closed out the flawless team performance with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Angelo at No. 6.

Guilford will return to action on Saturday, March 15, with a home matchup against conference rival, Roanoke College at 1 PM.
