The Guilford College women's tennis team held its first match of the season against Brevard College. The Quakers fell to the Tornadoes, 8-1.
In doubles action, No. 1 pairing of
Ashley Belnap and
Jolie Nhouyvanisvong fell 8-6.
Haley Moses and
Hannah Pardue (No. 2) dropped their match 8-5. while
Saniah Kimsey and
Nya Reed fell in third doubles, 8-1.
No. 1 singles was the battle of the Hannah's as Pardue (GC) and Hersh (BC) faced off. Pardue won the first set 6-4 but fell in the second 6-1. As the third set was a super tiebreaker with Pardue coming out on top, 10-5.
The Quakers fell in straight sets at No. 2 (6-0, 6-0), No. 4 (6-2, 6-1) and No. 5 (6-2, 6-0). At No. 3, Nhouyvanisvong was in a battle of the first set as it went to a tiebreaker. The sophomore fell 7-5 in the tiebreaker and eventually dropped the second set, 6-3.
The last match going on was No. 6 as Kimsey battle back from dropping the first set (7-5) and won the second, 6-2. In a super tiebreaker, the freshman tried to outlast her opponent but fell 10-5.
Guilford travels to Misenheimer, N.C. for the Pfeiffer Invitational on Sunday, September 25.
