The Guilford College men's lacrosse team welcomed the Pacers of William Peace to Appenzeller Field. The Quakers defeated the Pacers, 11-8.
Justin Barry opened the scoring for Guilford (2-2) at the 8:47 mark with an assist from
Nick Honkomp. William Peace (2-1) evened the score just over 30 seconds later.
Honkomp gave the lead back to the Quakers off a pass from Barry.
Andrew Burch scored the final goal of the first to lead 3-1.
To open the second, the Pacers scored the first goal at the 6:06 mark. However, GC turned it on in the second with three goals in the final 2:47 including two goals from Burch. Guilford led 6-2 at the half.
Third looked to be in control for WPU as it scored three goals to pull within one (6-5) at the 4:51 mark.
Thomas Goodwin and
Jax Atkins each found the back of the net with under a minute on the clock to put the Quakers in front by three (8-5) going to the final 15 minutes of regulation.
In the fourth, both teams scored three goals as the Guilford defense stood tall and preserved the three-goal win.
Honkomp finished the evening with four points (3G, 1A) while Burch had a hat trick. Barry,
Gabe Alvarez and
Joseph Hirvonen each had two points.
Ryan Reed started in net and picked up the win making eight saves.
Guilford will host the Falcons of Pfeiffer University on Saturday, March 5. Start time is 1 p.m.
