The Guilford College men's lacrosse welcomed Greensboro College for the home opener. The Quakers fell to the Pride, 13-7.
Guilford (0-2) opened the scoring at the 12:26 mark as
Justin Barry netted a pass from
Devin Morse. Greensboro (1-0) evened the game at one just over three minutes later.
Andrew Burch gave the Quakers the lead as
Thomas Goodwin followed with a goal of his own just 19 seconds later.
The Pride cut the deficit in half (3-2) with 7:27 to go in the first. The score remained the same until seven seconds were left in the period.
Kyle Smaw extended the advantage with a helper from Barry to lead 4-2.
In the second, Greensboro scored one minute into the period before Morse scored off a helper from Barry to maintain a two-goal lead, 5-3. The Pride grabbed control, scoring four-straight including two man-up goals as they lead 7-5 at the half.
The third was similar to the second with the Pride scoring four goals compared to one for the Quakers. The visitors led 11-6 going to the final 15 minutes of regulation.
Greensboro scored two more goals in the fourth while Guilford's
Nick Honkomp found the back of the net as Burch picked up an assist. Unfortunately, the scoring ended there as the Pride won by six goals.
Barry led the Quakers with four points (2G, 2A) while Burch, Honkomp and Morse each finished with two points.
Ryan Reed started in net, making six saves in over 50 minutes of action.
Guilford remains home as the Monarchs of Methodist University visit Appenzeller Field. Start time is set for 5:00 p.m.
