GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Guilford College and Bridgewater College split an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) softball doubleheader Sunday at Haworth Field. The Quakers captured game one, 8-6, but lost the nightcap, 5-1.

In the opener, Guilford outhit the Eagles, 14-7, but had to rally to secure the 8-6 victory. Makayla Crawford went 3-3 with two runs, a home run, one double and three RBI to pace Guilford. Katie McNeill (2-0) pitched the final two innings and earned the win.

Bridgewater plated four runs (three unearned) in the sixth inning to take a 6-5 lead. The home club, however, responded with three runs in the bottom half of the frame.

The first six Quakers' batters reached base in the bottom of the sixth on five hits and one walk. Crawford singled in Makayla Carver for the first run. Sarah Aukamp earned an RBI with a bases-loaded walk for the next score. The third run came from an infield single by Jordan Starke (2-3, home run, 4 RBI), which brought home Crawford.

Sydney Layman was 2-3 with a homer, one stolen base, and two RBI to lead the Eagles' offense. Hannah Trala (0-1) pitched the final three innings and took the loss.

Katie McNeill moved to 2-0 after working the final two innings and earning the win in the pitching circle. She surrendered one unearned run.

In the nightcap, Bridgewater collected 13 hits to Guilford's four in the 5-1 win. Carlita Tibbs was 3-4 with two RBI. Lindsey Talley, Layman, Stephanie Carroll and Mariah Wharton all had two hits for the visitors. Carroll moved to 2-2 on the season after tossing a complete game.

Carver started and took the defeat for Guilford. She dropped to 2-3 and allowed all five Bridgewater runs. McNeill pitched three scoreless frames in relief for the Quakers.

Crawford singled home Carver in the first inning for the home team's lone tally. Carver knocked a double and Crawford hit a triple later in the contest.

Guilford travels to Roanoke College to face the Maroons on Wednesday (3/28). The ODAC doubleheader begins at 5 p.m.
