Head coach Dave McCain led Guilford College's women's tennis team to a 1-1 record to begin his first spring season at Guilford. The Quakers dropped the first match of the weekend to Division II foe Winston-Salem State University at the McMichael Centennial Class Courts, Feb. 12, 8-1, and defeated cross-town rival, Greensboro College, Feb. 13, 6-3.
Senior Nina Bollag tallied the Quakers' only victory as she defeated the Rams' number-two singles seed, 6-3, 6-4.
The women bounced back to defeat McCain's former team, the Greensboro Pride, Sunday, 6-3.
In singles play, senior Liz Killion shut out her opponent, at third singles. Freshman Natalie Sutton and sophomore Adelaide Ayres tallied wins at No. 4 and No. 5. Sophomore Mackey Wesner lost a close three-set match to Katie Allegro.
The Quakers swept doubles play, all three matches, led by the team of Wesner and Sutton at number one.
