Guilford Ranked Sixth in ODAC Poll

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) soccer coaches picked Guilford College's men sixth in their annual preseason poll released Thursday. Defending champion Lynchburg College owns the top spot in the poll. The Hornets are the defending NCAA Division III runners up and top the 11-team men's poll, seven points in front of Virginia Wesleyan.

Jeff Bateson enters his sixth season as Guilford's head men's soccer coach after a 10-6-3 season (6-3-1 ODAC) in 2010. He returns 21 letter winners from a year ago and looks to junior Freddy Gomez for offensive leadership. The forward the Quakers's offense  in 2010 with 22 points and garnered all-region, all-state and All-ODAC recognition. The Quakers open the season in Demorest, Ga., against Oglethorpe University Sept. 3. They play their first home match Sept. 7 versus North Carolina Wesleyan College.
