MIRAMAR BEACH, Fla. – Guilford College's men's golf team slipped four places into seventh place Monday at the 2017 Golfweek NCAA Division III Fall Invitational at the Raven Golf Club at the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort. The Quakers shot 291 and sit in seventh place among 18 squads with a 36-hole score of 577.

St. Thomas (Minn.) University blistered the par-71, 6,598-yard, Robert Trent Jones, Jr. layout Monday with a 10-under-par 278 to take over the lead. The Tommies hold a nine-stroke edge over second-place Illinois Wesleyan University, which climbed a spot into second place at 571. Six shots separate second through seventh place as Huntingdon College (572) holds third, followed by first-round leader Concordia (Texas) University (574), Emory University (575), the University of Texas at Tyler (576) and Guilford.

UT-Tyler's Sam Hill smoked the course Monday with a six-under 65 that vaulted him atop the 90-man leaderboard with a seven-under 135 after 36 holes. Hill fired six birdies in a bogey-free round that opened a two-shot advantage over Huntingdon's Stephen Shepherd (69-98-137). Guilford sophomore Zach Evens slipped five spots from third to eighth after Monday's two-over 73 that left him one-under for the tournament at 141.

Quakers' junior Josh Hill turned in Monday's second-lowest score with a career-low 66 (-5). After sitting one-over after three holes, the Colorado native caught fire with four birdies over the next six holes. He added two more birdies on the back nine to conclude the fifth-lowest 18-hole score in Guilford history. Hill is the first Quaker to shoot 66 in a round since Ty Palmer '17 did it in consecutive rounds at the Gordin Classic in September of 2014.

Guilford sophomore Zachary Evens carded a second-round 73 for a 36-hole 141 (-1), good for a share of eighth place individually. Senior Harrison Frye (75) and rookie Jack Lee (77) provided the other Quakers' scores Tuesday. Kell Graham shot 79.

Coach Justin Tereshko's Quakers, ranked sixth in the current Bushnell Golfweek Division III Coaches' Poll, conclude tournament play Tuesday. The 54-hole event concludes Tuesday and features 14 teams ranked 23rd or higher, including eight of the top-10 units.
