Guilford Cross Country Teams Receive Academic Honor

NEW ORLEANS – Guilford College sponsors two of 389 NCAA Division III cross country teams identified as an All-Academic Team by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Friday. The recognition marks Guilford's the women's fourth consecutive honor, and the men's first since 2013.

Members of the Quakers women's cross country team combined for a 3.40 grade point average, while the men's cross country team recorded a 3.34 grade point average as a team. Squads with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.10 or higher made the USTFCCCA's list for 2016.

Guilford's women's cross country team recorded the athletics department's fourth-highest grade point average in the fall 2016 semester, followed by the men with the fifth-highest grade point average (tops among men's teams). Four women's cross country team members were named to the Guilford Fall 2016 Student-Athlete honor roll for maintaining a 3.20 grade point average or higher: Samantha Brooks, Summer Fanney, Kate Jenkins-Sullivan, and Kayli Reyna. Fanney and Reyna were also named to the dean's list for maintaining a 3.5 grade point average or higher. Five men's cross country team members were named to the Guilford Fall 2016 Student-Athlete honor roll: Caleb Amstutz, Caleb Anderson, Nick Jones, Quinton Simones, and Jonny Sumner. Amstutz and Simones were also named to the dean's list.
